Lifehacker is a blog that deals with one of the most popular subjects for public library books: how-to.
"How to do what?" you might ask.
Well, pretty much anything.
A quick browse through the Lifehacker main page can bring up links to tutorials on subjects ranging from how to keep your kitchen cleaner and less bacteria-infested to how to run a personal wiki from a USB stick drive. Useful information, all collected in an easy-to-search format and with permalinks so you can keep track of what you don't need now but might in the future.
Lifehacker describes its content as "tips and downloads for getting things done" and they hold true to that premise in their no-nonsense format. While many of the blog entries are tech-related, there are many with no computer or internet connection required (other than to read the blog entry).

Being new to blogging, I wish I would have visited a couple of those sites prior to creating mine. For that reason though, I could really see a library blog offering a link to that or a similar site. Library patrons usually have a topic or item in mind when they arrive, and if their mission is to find new reading material, this blog would fit that bill.
True it can make for an uneventful search if many blogs refer to the same subjects or sites, but that may be an unintended outcome of having so much information available and so many ways to spread it. But on the other hand, the case may be that the creator or manager of the site may need to increase their blogging repertoire or knowledge base...
Well I have to say that all of the things in here are pretty interesting. Good job. I don't know how much I like blogging but its good to know what drives people to do it and what tricks they do to make their blogs get their 15 minutes of internet fame.
This particular site was interesting and I did my own tests on it that didn't turn out as great as I hoped. I guess less typical searches for how tos just don't work on here as well as ask.com. But I did try 'buying a home' and got some silly stuff about ipods. *shrug* even after I hit the link to organize them by relevancy instead of popularity. I like that they have that option though. A way to further organize your search results. I think I try this site out next time instead of googling a phrase, 'how to.....' :) Thanks
